About Mckee's
While the farm itself may have been in the McKee family for over three generations, the farm shop is a relatively recent business venture. Selling a mix of produce from their own working farm, as well as other high quality local products and international speciality lines, there are few other businesses like this in Northern Ireland.
Conceived in 2000 by husband and wife team Colin and Linda McKee, trade has continued to grow year on year as their loyal customer base has expanded.
Recently rebuilt and extended, McKee’s now consists of a farm shop, coffee house and thriving outside catering business.
Asked where the idea for the business initially came from Colin explains: “We thought that the way farming was going we had to do something. Our income was going way down and if that carried on I was going to have to go out and look for work but we wanted to stay here and so we thought about ways we could add value to our produce.
We started things off in a very small way, selling just a few apples in the first week but it gradually built up from there. “We have never done a lot of advertising, most new customers would come to us by recommendation. People will come in here saying that their friends have told them about us and they will buy away. I think that is the best way customers can find out about the store - they are much more willing to buy if they come to us through a personal recommendation.”
